Asked Questions

How does it work?

Hiring a design professional is different for everyone. At Locale Designs, we like to remain flexible in the amount of help you need. If you want help arranging furniture and finished but prefer to hire your own trades and do the dirty work on your own, that’s fine! If you want us to come in and hold your hand while we walk you through it step by step, that’s fine too!

How long will it take?

This answer can vary greatly from project to project and from client to client. The design process itself can take anywhere from a few days to a couple of weeks up to a couple of months depending on the scope of the project. When ordering fixtures, finishes and custom materials the timeline for delivery can be anywhere from 2-8 weeks. With larger renovations and projects the process may start before your product arrives so that the space will be ready for the product once it arrives. The designer will develop a schedule that will be followed as closely as possible. You will get a copy of the schedule and the designer will be in touch with you to ensure you know what to expect each day and if there is anything you need to do along the way.

Who do you hire?

Once you have worked in the trade for a while you start to learn who is good, who is bad and who is AWESOME! Locale Designs has preferred contractors who are exceptional in their field. Quality of work is important but just as important is communication and trust. We have built relationships together over time and know what to expect from one another which makes for a great team environment and quality final product for the client.

My friend/family member is an “insert trade here”, can we use them for our project?

While this was, once upon a time, something we would totally consider we have moved away from hiring outside of our team.  On occasion exceptions can be made but we all work well together and know how each other operates and that's a big part of what makes our projects so successful.

Are you a decorator or a designer? What is the difference?

Tegan is an Interior Design Technologist, a title that required two years of college study. One major difference between a decorator and designer is that a designer requires formal training where a decorator does not. Designers focus on Architectural drawings, the construction process, code-compliance, space planning, health and safety, etc where a decorator focuses solely on furnishings, color, textiles and accessories. Design is not just what it looks like and feels like, design is how it works. Learn more about what we do here.

My spouse and I have different ideas, how do we make it work for both of us?

Hiring a third party professional is absolutely the best way to handle this. Locale Designs takes pride in their ability to come up with creative solutions to meet everyone’s needs.
