The Aicken’s original master bathroom was due for a reno but space was at a premium. We used what space we had and this bathroom does not disappoint.
At a whopping 38sf their updated ensuite packs a punch. From the master bedroom there is a “hall” with a closet on each side; a walk-through closet, if you will. When walking through the closet area and into the bathroom the vanity is centered perfectly on the doorway which creates a lovely balanced focal point when entering the space. To the left of the sink is the custom tiled shower with glass partition and to the right is a tower cabinet for towels and toiletries. We chose to leave the vanity floating instead of to the floor for a couple of reasons but mainly for ease of cleaning next to the fixed glass shower partition. We also left the area under the counter to the right of the sink open because the toilet was close and a cabinet door wouldn’t open. It also happens to be a great place for a hamper!
Just because their space is small, doesn’t mean it has to be bland or basic. We used a greige stained oak and a concrete look-alike laminate. The tile is crisp and simple but with a texture on the vanity wall to create interest. We decided to continue the feature tile on the entire wall in the shower and behind the vanity as to not chop up the space, which would make it seem smaller. It also allowed for a pretty cool mirror and shelf detail above the sink, which I love!
